(29 Jun 1976) The Soviet Leader, Leonid I. Brezhnev, addressed the opening of the Conference Of Communist Parties in East Berlin, on tuesday (june 29), attended by 29 leaders of European Communist Parties where he defended the Soviet claim to communist leadership His speech, the highlight of the opening ceremonies, placed the greatest emphasis on "proletarian internationalism"... a code word for the Soviet claim to leadership of the international communist movement.
The summit conference was held in the Hotel Stadt Berlin (City Of Berlin) on East Berlin's Alexander Platz. The two day meeting was held by 29 heads of state, including Edward Gierek Of Poland, Portuguese Communist Leader Alvaro Cunhal, and Romanian Party leader Nicolae Ceausescu. Also, Tito of Yugoslavia, Marchais of France and Berlinguer of Italy
