Here's a quick video creating strands of hair using curves and the hotkeys to manipulate them around your mesh to create unique looking styles on your models.

Create the basic shape: 0:32
Edit anchor points: 1:07
Make hair shape: 2:12
Hotkeys: 4:30
Convert to mesh for sculpting: 5:26

Important keys in edit mode of path:
Scale - Alt + S
Rotate - Ctrl + T
