3 tips that helped me the most when building a winter campfire ⤵️

1. A butane lighter does not work in the cold and matches can get wet. A ferro rod is an easy and reliable option.

2. Choose dead trees that are off the ground to avoid moisture. If the branch easily snaps off its probably dead. If it splinters/peels, it’s alive and has too much moisture for the fire.

3. Dig a hole in the snow or else the fire will melt the snow below it and it’ll either put your fire out or won’t let off as much heat. If the ground is frozen, a compact steel fire pit provides a flat and enclosed surface.
