KAGAPAKUMA is a 22-year-old Wauja student at the Piyulaga Indigenous State School of Basic Education, located in the Piyulaga village, in the Xingu Indigenous Territory (TIX). In her video, produced in partnership with Professor Piratá, she shows the importance of pequi in Wauja food and culture, in the words of the elderly woman Apulatá Waurá and the young Makawa and Mentowo Waurá. The pequi tree is planted in the old gardens, as a way of reforesting these areas. The video is set to the music of Jakui, a protective spirit of the forest.
