C.P.E. Bach's March in D is one of his most engaging and happy marches. It is in classic AB form, cadencing on the dominant (A) with some fun, insistent repeated LH A's. The B section carries on the theme, now in the dominant. It characteristically concludes in the tonic, D major, again with drum beat D's for a vibrant ending.
Pianist Landon Baumgard delights the ear with his elegant embellishments on the repeated sections. Is it easier to feel the spirit of the Anna Magdalena Book Notebook on a gorgeous harpsichord and in period costume? We think so!
As we launch into teaching and playing, let's play and enjoy more pieces from the treasured Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach.
