A Russian Air Force AN-124 cargo jet delivered the S-400 consignment to the Murted Air Base outside the capital Ankara on Friday morning (pictured: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan at the G20 in Japan last month, left; and S-400 missile systems, top and bottom right). The U.S. said that Turkey's procurement of the hardware would run counter to its membership of NATO, in the latest issue between the two countries which have clashed over the Syrian conflict. Washington believes the new Russian technology could compromise its F-35 stealth fighter jets, an aircraft Turkey is helping to build and to buy. 'The delivery of parts belonging to the system will continue in the coming days,' Turkey's Defence Industry Directorate said separately. 'Once the system is completely ready, it will begin to be used in a way determined by the relevant authorities.'
