ALDERNEY, CHANNEL ISLANDS - During WW2, the German forces occupied Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney and built hundreds of bunkers for the war as part of their Atlantic Wall. I visit a Naval Range-Finding Tower (MP3) - commonly known locally as 'The Odeon'. It was built by forced labourers in 1943 under the Occupying German Regime to observe enemy ships. It's the biggest bunker on the island and dominates the Eastern.

Originally, the bunker was intended as a naval range-finding position to observe enemy ships and was to be part of a network with five other similar towers placed around the island, but they were never build, so this bunker was never really used for the intended purpose.

The rounded front section was for observation and the rear section for accommodation and target plotting.

The bunker has recently opened after renovation so join me as we explore the fascinating piece of history.
