Bahrain and Israel are giving booster doses to people who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Thailand and Indonesia are considering approving them especially for healthcare workers. Booster shots are given in addition to COVID-19 vaccine doses to provide higher immunity against the virus. They contain ineffective/altered mRna like the vaccines and are meant to combat the emerging variants. Currently, Pfizer and COVAX* are inoculating people with booster doses. People with low immunity, preconditions or immuno-compromising conditions will benefit from booster doses. It will also help frontline workers who are more exposed to the virus.
Initial studies say that It will be effective if delivered weeks after the second dose or 10 months after the first dose.
