Therefore, the idea was born to evacuate the patients who have completed their treatments and their families, as well as the displaced people in the corridors, to a camp that provides essential life necessities. This can help them to stay and continue their lives."

Around 20,000 displaced persons in Gaza European Hospital will all be moved to the Mawasi area in Khan Younis. Overcrowding, displacement, death and homelessness – honestly, the thought of moving us again frightens us."

STORYLINE:
In Gaza Strip's Khan Younis city, dozens of displaced Palestinians are living in the packed corridors of the European hospital, where health workers struggle to assist the sick and injured.

The families cook, sleep and wash clothes inside the hospital.

Fedaa Mady, a displaced mother from beach camp, said she felt safer there despite the over crowding.

"We are sleeping here in a corridor. Yes, it is inconvenient, but it is better than any other place; there's water and electricity. My son gets sick every once in a while, and I want to stay here in the hospital for my son's sake."

Khan Younis has been targeted by repeated Israeli military operations over recent weeks.

Dr. Saleh al-Hams, director of the nursery department at the European Hospital, said that tents were being set up to house displaced people whose presence hindered the functioning of the system.

Satellite photos analyzed by The Associated Press appear to show a new compound of tents being built near Khan Younis as the Israeli military signals it plans an offensive targeting the southern city of Rafah.

Israel says it plans to evacuate civilians from Rafah, where hundreds of thousands of people have taken refuge during the war.

But Al Hams said the tent compound in Khan Younis was not related to any potential military operation.

The Israeli military said Tuesday that it was not involved in the tent construction.

One of the displaced Zohair Dawla, from Gaza city, said he was afraid of being relocated.

"We were told here in the hospital that the displaced people are going to be transferred. Around 20,000 displaced persons in Gaza European Hospital will all be moved to the Mawasi area in Khan Younis," he said.
