BMW has built some legendary six-cylinder engines throughout its history, ranging from the insanely powerful ones found in M3s to those renowned for their reliability and fuel efficiency, powering a wide range of vehicles from sub-compact cars such as the 1 series to full size SUVs like the x7.
It has been producing 6 cylinder engines for almost 100 years, during this time BMW has designed 10s or even hundreds of 6 cylinder engines, from different sizes to different architectures, the only thing that hasn’t changed it’s the cylinder configuration, all BMW 6 cylinders are in-line.
