The ending of this excellent film is of course famous because of the twist. But the music is just as brilliant. Composer James Newton Howard has composed some of his best music for the films of M. Night Shyamalan, and it all started with this one. The score is subtle for most of the film, but in this final, all-important cue, he lets loose with the full range of emotions that Malcolm goes through when the penny drops. The track was annoyingly titled 'Malcolm is Dead' on the soundtrack album, but hopefully everyone's aware of the twist by now.
