Being strong is the cheat code if you love Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Enjoy this vid with thoughts, tips, and tricks regarding strength training and bjj from Paragon Coach (and Purple Belt) @alexqmaclin
Tips:
* How many days you lift vs go to bjj is going to depend on what’s important to you, what your goals are, what you enjoy doing, and what you’re trying to get out of it. But even if you don’t super love lifting, prioritizing 2-3 of strength training would pay massive dividends in being able to absolutely whomp on people on the mat (:
* You’ll want a good strength training program with progressive overload. I follow the @paragontrainingmethods 3-Day Physique program. It has all the movements that transfer well to bjj/grappling. Since it’s a 3-day full body program, I’m able to do 4-6 days of bjj each week and still recover with no problem.
*Movements and lifts with beneficial carryover to bjj: squats, single leg movements like split squats and lunges, deadlifts, bench press, hip thrusts, heavy farmer carries, overhead press, rows, pull-ups, core movements…
* If you want to perform your best on the mat, you gotta prioritize recovery. Make sure you’re eating enough calories (and carbs), you’re staying hydrated, prioritizing 7-8 hours of sleep at night, and getting 1-2 rest days per week.
*Also make sure you’re staying on top of mobility and regularly stretching and getting bendy. I know, I know - this is a lot. But if you’re gonna try and do the most, you gotta be high maintenance and keep that body bulletproof so you can train hard and have fun for the long haul and not get injured
Lift big so you can grapple big!
