If you're going to write something like "Who are you?", you can't just straight up answer it. People don't talk like that in real life unless it's a very specific circumstance. Ask better questions, prompt better responses. Characters aren't mouthpieces for exposition, they're individuals who--yes, DO need to move the story forward--but who also have their own quirks and tendencies that need to be brought out in a dialogue.
If you need the reader to have some information that they don't yet, the best way to manage it is to imagine you're trying to sneak them poison. It's best to do it subtly and in small doses.
