An attack on man, an attack on hope, an attack on God.
70 years ago this year the Auschwitz extermination camp was liberated. Even today the horror the place serves as symbol of the terror man is capable of.
Tens of thousands of Jews, Poles, Gypsies, Catholic priests and opponents of the Nazi Regime were subjected to medical experiments and forced labor there and brutally murdered.
It’s a place of unimaginable cruelty but paradoxically also of heroic charity, where one Polish monk gave hope and set a unique example of self-giving.
