Can you wear a solid color kilt with a tartan tie?
Well of course you could, but is it a good look? We think it has merit as a contemporary style...
Solid-color kilts, including tweed kilts, have a long history dating back to the Victorian age. A fine example is the MacLeay portrait print of John Brown (1827-1883), manservant to Queen Victoria wearing an all-grey kilt outfit.
Solid color kilts are Irish. Another example is the use of solid blue and saffron kilts by adherents of the Gaelic Revival movement in Ireland. And from this we draw some special inspiration. A necktie in the tartan of your Irish County can be paired very well with a solid color kilt of Saint Patrick Blue, Irish Saffron, or Kelly Green.
