In the 1920’s-30’s, Yiddish was one of Belarus’ official languages, together with Belarusian, Russian, and Polish. During the Holocaust, the Nazis carried out mass executions of the Jews of Belarus; and with it, a loss of Yiddish culture. As the World Jewish Congress is in Belarus to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the destruction of the Minsk ghetto, these are the faces of the Jews of Belarus.
