Black walnut has a lot of medical benifits but is not considered a supplement to be taken for long periods of time. Based on my research you usually take it for two weeks every 6-12 months for a variety of reasons.
There's also a chemical called juglone that's very harmful to other plants and trees. It's not entirely clear if it's really bad for humans but based on what I've read it seems as though it's not much a concern because the benifits outweighs the negatives.
This is also likely why the tincture is used less often.
