In 2019, David Gilmour auctioned off over 100 guitars from his massive private collection at Christie’s in New York, in what was reportedly the auction house’s biggest and most comprehensive sale of music instruments. Among these guitars were David’s beloved 1971 Martin D12-28 12-string, as well as his 1969 Martin D-35. Given that Gilmour had just auctioned off some of his most treasured composition and recording companions for over 40 years, he collaborated with Martin to design these replacements.
