About the Presenter: Channing Dodson began learning the bagpipes in his teens from Santa Cruz piper Jay Salter. He later received instruction in pìobaireachd from Scottish piping gold medalists Pipe Major Jimmy MacColl and Ailean Dòmhnullach (Allan MacDonald of Glenuig).
During a summer in college spent in Co. Kerry, Ireland, he began learning the uilleann pipes with the help and encouragement of West Kerry pipers Con Durham, Cillian Ó Bríain, and Eoin Duignan. He later attended workshops with David Power and Jimmy O’Brien-Moran that left a strong influence on his playing. In addition to the uilleann pipes, he also plays Irish music on the wooden concert flute.
Since moving to Portland, Channing has had the privilege of performing and playing in sessions with some of the world’s greatest Irish traditional musicians, including Kevin Burke, Paddy Keenan, and Paddy O’Brien.
