Today, I've gone to Santa Cruz de la Palma, one of the prettiest towns in the Canary Islands, and you've never seen anything like it before.
This discovery would only feel complete if I saw it with my own eyes, and boy, was it worth it.
Santa Cruz de La Palma was once the third most important maritime port in the Spanish Empire.
Once the city had been a flourishing export hub and attracted a large number of merchants and bankers.
Its importance became substantial when economic power from the trade routes to Europe and the Americas began.
This glorious past is very much still apparent, and it dates from the late 15th century.
Typical elements of traditional Canary Island architecture can be found here.
Spot the typical Canarian colourful houses with wooden balconies, beautifully decorated with brightly coloured flowers, and colonial-style buildings, all with a maritime flavour.
Now a museum, an old convent contains an eclectic collection of zoology, ethnography, natural sciences, and fine arts.
Have a scout around, and you'll be surprised by what you'll find here.
If you are meeting up with friends, locals tend to gather at Plaza de España.
It's an ideal place to stop and enjoy a "barraquito" (coffee with condensed milk, cinnamon, lemon peel and a sweet liqueur).
The Plaza de Mercado will dazzle you where local growers sell their produce direct, as well as the quality of its cheeses and meats.
The variety of its fruits and vegetables, everything from dried fruits, nuts, fresh avocado, passion fruits, melons to gigantic zucchini, and here the pears taste like pears, and grapes taste like grapes.
Come and see Santa Cruz de la Palma for yourself; it's an excellent discovery.
