In this video, I go over an example of airport information on a sectional chart. In this case, I am looking at Santa Barbara airport in California.

Your Sectional chart or Terminal Area chart has a legend that details this information as well but not with much detail.

The first thing to remember is the airport symbol itself. If the airport symbol is blue then this signifies a controlled airport and if the symbol is magenta then this signifies an uncontrolled airport. The shape of the airport symbol will tell you whether the airport is a hard surface or other than a hard surface as well as the general length of the longest runway. A star on top of the runway signifies the airport has a rotating beacon operating from sunrise to sunset.

The line below the airport symbol tells you the name of the airport and its airport identifier. The next line details the control tower and ATIS frequencies. The following line of information starts with the elevation of the airport and then describes lighting information (denoted by an "L"), the longest runway available, and the UNICOM frequency. The difference between a CTAF and UNICOM frequency is that on a CTAF you should not expect a reply. CTAFs are used to pronounce to local traffic your intentions at the airport while UNCIOMs are used to get more information from the station.

The last line of information starting with an RP is only shown when the airport has runways that operate with a right traffic pattern. All numbers following the RP signify runways in which you must obey a right traffic pattern. All other runways are assumed in the left traffic pattern.
