If you've been looking for a replacement motion sensor for your security / floodlights and have been pulling your hair out trying to find one that works with your existing lights, you're not alone. Finding one that actually works for more than a year is almost as hard.

This specific one I found I've had good previous experience with over the years in our hot & cold Canadian climate. It's a good name brand, and most importantly - it uses a proper switching relay that will work with almost all 120 VAC light technologies be it incandescent, LED, florescent and even mixed.

With more and more LED motion security lights on the market these days in combination with the vast majority of replacement motion sensors being TRIAC switched instead of relay switched, compatibility is hit and miss. Same goes for any motion lights you have with compact florescent bulbs.

Manufacturers have to start stating on their replacement motion sensor specification, what kind of switch device is used - a TRIAC or a Relay. Both have pros and cons, but if you want a replacement motion sensor that will work with pretty much any 120VAC light technology, one that uses a relay is your best & safe bet; unfortunately, they are getting harder and harder to find.
