Teach-pendant programming was developed by the robot manufacturers themselves. This is one of the most common programming methods, but not the most efficient at the moment.
First, it's very long. Each point of the robot's trajectory is programmed. Any change to the original program requires new programming. One part takes hours, days, and sometimes months of programming.
Secondly, it requires high qualifications from a specialist with knowledge in robotics and programming. This leads to the high cost of these works.
Thirdly, during such programming, the robotic cell is idle and cannot be used. So, it means long downtime.
Today, there are more modern and efficient programming methods that automate this process. In particular, this technology was developed by ABAGY.
