We’re back in the studio to predict which watches Rolex will reveal at Watches and Wonders 2024. More specifically, we’re going to debate which watches we think could be on the chopping block this year as well as the hotly rumoured watches that could be announced.
The most prominent rumours out there regarding watches ripe for discontinuation include the palm dial Datejust models alongside the Yacht-Master II range as a whole. Some people think that 2024 is the final year for the GMT-Master II 126720VTNR and if true this would represent a short production run for the unusual left handed sports model. Will the Oyster Perpetual Celebration dial remain in the Rolex catalogue or will it make a swift exit? Of course the big one that everyone is talking about is none other than the Pepsi - one of the most famous steel professional models in the world. Apparently Rolex has production issues regarding the iconic blue and red bezel. Red ceramic is reportedly rather difficult to manufacture and results in a high percentage of the bezels cracking, either during production or servicing when the bezel needs to be removed from the watch. The question is, will the top swiss watchmaker stop production of such a popular model a mere 6 years after its introduction and if they do, will they introduce a replacement?
On the other side of the coin lies the discussion of new timepieces that could enter the playing field in 2024. RLX titanium is a hot new material seen in the elusive Yacht-Master 42 reference 226627. Can we see other models that are due to receive the titanium treatment or will it continue to be reserved for a limited number of models that are almost impossible to obtain. Will the Milgauss continue its holiday or shall we see a prompt return in a whole new case? 2024 marks the 70th anniversary of the GMT-Master II so we would expect Rolex to celebrate the occasion with an anniversary reference. Platinum is often the material of choice for the most prestigious and special wristwatches in a manufacturer's product range. Could the GMT be destined for a platinum model and would it be on a jubilee bracelet? Finally, let’s talk about the Coke, the black and red bezel that was a popular choice on the aluminium bezel watches of a bygone generation. Will the well known colour combination make its way back to the scene this year or will Rolex do something that nobody is expecting like they often do.
