Gilbert's academic journey began with a bachelor’s degree in Systems Analysis from Miami University in 1991. He next enrolled at the University of Cincinnati, where he completed his Master's and Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2000.
His dissertation, titled "Arthur: An Intelligent Tutoring System with Adaptive Instruction," laid the groundwork for his future innovations in educational technology and human-computer interaction.
Dr. Gilbert's career is marked by numerous groundbreaking achievements. He is best known for inventing Prime III.
Prime III is the world’s first all-accessible electronic voting system, which makes voting more accessible and reliable for people with disabilities.
His work has earned him significant accolades, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring in 2011, awarded by President Barack Obama, and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation in 2023, presented by President Joe Biden.
