Florence Warner, born March 22, 1947 in Atlanta, Georgia, was an American singer who worked mainly in recordings of television commercials. Notable companies Warner has sung advertisements for included Burger King, Hoover, Kmart, Kodak, Michelob, Pepsi, PBS, Sprite, Safeway, Starburst Fruit Chews, and V-8. She was also notably the singing voice of Kimber Benton in the television series "Jem".
But one particular work of hers stands most notable, at least to the audience of this channel. The "Hello" image campaign by Frank Gari was the most widely-used and best-known local station image campaign ever created. "Hello" began its run with a love song to the community sung by Frank Gari and quickly transformed into a ballad version sung by Florence Warner. In an interview, Frank Gari said that there were 110 versions of the song. The version sung by Warner was by far the most popular and most associated with the image campaign.
Warner, the most-widely used vocalist behind "Hello", passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the age of 77. While gone, her immense contribution to local television branding will not be forgotten.
This video aims to pay tribute to Ms. Warner's contributions to the "Hello" image campaign. Here, you will first see a news report from KWQC, the NBC affiliate in Davenport, lowa. This station recently resurrected the "Hello" image campaign, complete with Warner's vocals in the promos. The station acknowledged her death during the 6pm news on the 19th.
Following that, you will see a compilation of just some of the many "Hello" image promos Warner sung over the years. The videos are not mine and credit will be given in this description. This tribute compilation is the least I can do to show my appreciation for the amazing work Warner provided to the television world and quite literally millions of viewers. Her name wasn't a household one, but her work and voice certainly was. RIP Florence Warner.
