This is a beautiful Baul song sung all across Bengal and Bangladesh by the Bauls and Fakirs alike. The song is written by the Bengali mystic spiritual minstrel Bhoba Pagla, an esoteric song writer following the ascetic Sahajiya Vaishnab practices, deeplu criticising all racial and gender discriminations i through his beautiful use of rural working class humour n his poetry and emphasising on peace and harmony all his life.
This song talks about reaching the market of love where Gour ( Sri Chaitanyadev) resides or the the court of his disciple Nityananda, both places residing within our very heart. But one has to be pure in his/her longing for the one true lord within us and have one heart, not troubled by the dilemmas and evasive nature of lust, anger, greed and ambition, addictions and jealousy.
This is a simple video shot on my rooftop and in the simple streets and fields of rural Bengal (Binimoypara, Ashoknagar, North 24 parganas). Thanks to my friend and brother Amit for being far and yet helping in shooting such warm and beautiful footages of everyday village life.
