In this DIY video I’m going to show you how you can easily build your own heavy duty 2x4 free standing shelves all by yourself.
I’m gonna show you the easiest way to build your own 2’ x 4’ shelving. I’m gonna break it down and explain and show you exactly how to put it together step-by-step along with everything you need to do it.
You can build a shelf in any configuration you want. You can have as many or as little shells as you want and whatever spacing you want in between them. It all gets put together the same way.
The materials you’re going to need is...
16 - 8 foot long two by fours
2 - 8‘ x 4‘ by half-inch sheets of plywood
2 - 1 pound boxes of 3 inch number eight drywall screws
1 - box of Brad nails
Once you get the wood and you’re going to have to either cut it yourself or have the store cut it for you.
8 - of the 8’ 2x4’s will stay full length
Then cut up the other 2x4’s so you have a total of... 4 - 6’ long 2x4’s and 20 - 21” long 2x4’s. The will be some scraps left over.
Each piece of plywood is going to need to be cut in half horizontally so your left with a total of.... 4 - 2‘ x 8‘ 1/2” pieces of plywood. Then 3 of those 4 pieces of plywood will have to have the corners notched 3”x5” as shown in the video @ 1:41.
NEXT: just put it all together as shown in the video and enjoy!
If you' r using this description as a list of what you need. I also used (4) - clamps to hold up the shelves while installing them. And I used (4) - 3 wheel casters to for underneath the shelf to help me roll it around.
As far as tools go, you’re gonna need...
A drill, circular saw or jigsaw, hammer, tape measure, level, clamps, and maybe some alcohol. The alcohol part is a joke, kind of. Jk.
