Let's go back to 1988 with this Comrade Chinx original. The live video of this song takes me back to a very happy place. It shows Zimbabweans of all colors and backgrounds dancing together in Harare Gardens... everyone seemingly full of hope. Oh, how I wish we could turn back the hands of time.
Ngorimba is a song about harmony. It talks of a beat that hails from our heritage(s)... Cde Chinx sings of how the ngoma (hand drum), marimba, hosho (shakers) and mbira come together in perfect harmony to birth this sound he calls NGORIMBA. The chorus says “They are playing... listen. They are saying something”. He goes on to implore us not to be outdone by these inanimate and diverse objects that manage to come together in harmony to create something special. Just like them, we can all come together in harmony despite our differences.
The song ends by saying “if I was a dancing person, I’d jump onto the dance floor to honor this harmony”. Well, I know you all are dancing people. Let the music carry you. Just dance!!!
