Several hundred protesters gathered at two squares in Paris on Saturday as the “yellow vest” movement returned to the French capital after months of quiet during the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.
One of the two marches was delayed when authorities use tear gas to disperse demonstrators who had strayed from the designated route, some of them setting fire to waste bins and cars.
More than 154 people were arrested during the protests, according to police.
Police called on Saturday's demonstrators to respect sanitary measures in Paris, which is among the country's coronavirus “red zones,” where it is compulsory to wear a mask even outdoors in the streets.
