In Tunisia, the Amazigh – an indigenous ethnic group present in North Africa for thousands of years – officially represents only a tiny minority of the country’s population today. The post-independence constitution prioritised Tunisia’s Arab and Muslim identity and the education system excluded the Amazigh language. But in the mountains of the country’s south, the Amazigh culture and language are still surviving. FRANCE 24’s team on the ground reports.
