Welcome to a conversation on loneliness and how it impacts your life.
Loneliness is an epidemic. One in four Canadians aged five to 24 report feeling lonely, and ongoing feelings of loneliness can affect physical health more than smoking and obesity. Considering negative side effects of isolation have become more prevalent after the global COVID-19 pandemic, it’s increasingly important to examine why so many people are feeling lonely and what can be done about it.
In this thought-provoking live discussion, Nam Kiwanuka and guest Nicole Franklin from @blacktherapistcollective do a deep dive into the topic of loneliness. They unpack the impact of social media, the physical and mental health effects of loneliness, how people coped with isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, and discuss the stigma surrounding feeling alone – no matter how many people are around.
How does loneliness affect racialized and immigrant communities? How can loneliness impact your mental and physical health? Is self-care and “loving yourself” the cure for loneliness? How can you alleviate and overcome your own loneliness? Who can you turn to for support? How can you help someone in your life who’s feeling isolated? All these questions and more will be covered in this TVO Thread Live conversation on loneliness.
