So last time, we took a trip to the Land of Summons and scored some sweet treasures, along with two new Summons for Rydia! If that's not a successful side quest, I don't know what is. There's still a thing or two left to do here in the Underworld, so let's get crackin'.
CHAPTER 16 - SYLVAN CAVE
You ever wonder what ever happened to Yang? Ya, me neither but we're going to find out anyway. In the Northwest corner of the Underworld is a cave known as Sylvan Cave (or Sylph Cave depending on if you're playing a different version). This is the second area after the Cave of Summons where you must cast float on your entire party every time you enter a new screen. This area doesn't have a boss fight, so I had to be a little creative with the thumbnail. However, there are a number of very annoying monsters in this area that will cast Toad or other status ailments. Very annoying.
There's a number of hidden paths throughout this place and you'll eventually notice that there's two different overall paths altogether. One path will lead you to a room with six 'Monsters!' treasure chests. It has its own exit, so you don't have to double back. The other path will lead to a peculiar-looking house... Inside, you'll find some Sylvans/Sylphs who are caring for Yang. After he destroyed the cannons, he was able to make his way here... somehow...
Yang is sleeping and/or unconscious and will not wake up. So that's that, right? Chapter over? Nah. There's someone out there who will want to know Yang is still alive. Her name is... Yang's Wife. It's a shame we have to frivolously include the scene where you plow through the entrance of the Underworld, but we need to go to Fabul. Yang's wife is happy to hear that Yang is still alive, but she's obviously upset and wondering why he doesn't come home. She gives you the 'Frying Pan' and tells you to give him a good whack with this. So now, we have to go through Sylvan Cave again!
It's definitely a little easier the second time around. We give Yang a good whack and he wakes up. He wants to rejoin us. With Kain gone, we have an empty slot but he's still not 100% and the Sylvans don't want him to go. So instead, they offer to become a Summon for Rydia. Is it a good trade? I dunno, but for some reason you get Yang's weapons back, which is kinda odd since he doesn't rejoin.
There's one last thing to do! You gotta be polite and give Yang's wife her Frying Pan back. When you do, she'll give you the 'Knife' in exchange. Knife is an extremely powerful item, which can be thrown by Edge. Keep it handy and save it for the right fight.
