A group of House Republicans, led by Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene, attempted to downplay the insurrection and the hearings from yesterday by staging a protest outside of the Department of Justice, but the event was quickly turned on its head when counter-protesters showed up and shut them down. Greene and Gaetz both ended up running away from the chaos as they endured chants of "traitor" and other angry yells. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what happened.

Republicans yesterday while Democrats were actually dealing with real issues with the January 6th select committee hearings, Republicans decided to hold a little, I guess, press conference outside of the US department of justice to highlight the plight of the Capitol riot suspects that have been arrested so far. Because according to these Republicans, which included people like Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Louie Gohmert, according to them, these people are just being treated so, so unfairly, which couldn't be further from the truth, actually. There, there's no evidence to suggest that these people are somehow having their rights trampled upon, even though they are the ones who stormed the congressional building, which is why we're having the hearings in the first place. So anyway, they have this little impromptu, not even impromptu, really. They had planned it for quite a while. Few people showed up, but most of the people who did show up, turned out to be counter protestors, who were only there to drown out the idiots speaking at that microphone. And the whole thing devolved into chaos very quickly and resulted in both Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene, running away from the protestors. Here it is. Take a look.
Um, I noticed Matt Gaetz didn't answer the question. Also noticed that he got confused about which car he was supposed to go into. Marjorie Taylor Greene though, it was like she was gone. Like her guy, was like you're out of here, we're getting you gone. She disappears very quickly. And then Matt Gaetz, you know, tries to be cool and tries to be like, ah, uh, oh, it's not this car. Where's my car. Oh no. Yeah. Um, y'all deserve that, by the way. Like I have no problem with what happened at that press conference because first and foremost, again, this press conference was total BS. You know, we have Congress that's literally at the, at that time, listening to these horrible stories from the police officers that had to deal with these Capitol riot suspects. And then over here, you've got Taylor Greene and Gaetz defending these individuals, trying to claim that they're the victims.
So no, I, I have no sympathy for them. And also because these counter protesters, not just the ones you saw on video, there was also a band, a brass band that showed up to drown out everything these idiots were saying. Like whoever planned these counter protests, you absolutely have my respect and admiration because you did it right. Okay. There was no threat of violence. There was no, you know, shoving or pushing or trying to get physical at all with the lawmakers. You didn't break any laws whatsoever. But you completely disrupted the whole thing and you sent them panicked and running away. That's what people are gonna remember from their little idiotic press conference. They're not going to remember the stupid talking points, mostly because most people didn't even get to hear them because the brass band and of course the counter protesters. But again, they did it right. And Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene absolutely deserved this.
