Railing a berm with your enduro bike or motocross bike is a very useful cornering technique and Ruben Chadwick shows us how. We strongly recommend you first work on your basic cornering skills first, especially in the seated position on your dirt bike. If you haven't mastered the basics of an easy corner then you'll probably just reinforce bad technique by getting into berms too early. And a proper pair of knee braces will go a long way to reducing your risks of injury if it all goes wrong, regardless of whether you are into enduro or motocross. So... One thing we need to stress with railing berms on a dirt bike, don't jump head of yourself. How to rail berms on an enduro bike? Too many guys for for that bike magazine cover shot and try to slide in, square off then roost out. Focus on good basic techniques first then learn how to rail berms. Motovlogs of our cross training rides with links to relevant training vids. Great viewing for dirt riders if you get excited watching paint dry or grass grow. Ruben Chadwick has been learning this stuff from motocross as he mainly has the trials background. At first you can have your boot out near your front axle but as you lean the bike more and more, you can see Ruben needs his leg high to avoid hitting the ground.
Being half off the seat lets you lean the bike more. This lets you follow the berm better. Our training vids are all free but supported by a few of our dedicated viewers. Join them, and for the cost of a coffee you get four extra ride vids each month! Lean the bike but keep your body upright. As with normal cornering, remember to keep your elbows up and weight the outside footpeg especially as you exit to get more traction to the rear wheel. This lets you haul the bike upright if needed to correct the bike if it slides out too much. We are a group of mostly middle-aged riders in the early stages of dementia who are keen to put something back into the dirt bike community. All the top extreme enduro riders are gods to us.
Your leg acts like an outrigger to keep you balanced, and you can put your foot down if the bike does get out of shape. Also keep your leg near the bike, as you can see Ruben doing.
We can't stress enough the need to do berms smoothly at a moderate speed until you have mastered all these basics. As you do get better, then try the following.
