In this One on 1 interview, we are joined by Margie Phelps, a lifelong member of Westboro Baptist Church. She is one of the 13 children of the original pastor, Fred Phelps. She has served as counsel for the church in legal matters related to the church's 30+-year street ministry, including representing the church before the United States Supreme Court in Snyder v. Phelps. She has also participated in the street ministry herself. Ms. Phelps is a graduate of the University of Kansas, where she received her Masters in Public Administration, and Washburn University of Topeka, Kansas, where she received a Juris Doctorate and undergraduate degree in Corrections &
Criminal Justice. Ms. Phelps has an adopted son and three grandchildren. In addition to practicing law for over 40 years, Ms. Phelps has recently retired after a career as a leader in the corrections and criminal justice system; and, for over 40 years, has served as a consultant and grant writer for various organizations.
