It's that time of year again in north central Illinois where the days get shorter and the site of bare cornfields means one thing in the month of October....The World Power Wheelstanding Contest comes to Byron Dragway! With a 60% chance of rain in forecast the contest and heavy rain saturday evening, the sunday event was in doubt. Track owner BJ Vangsness personally was out on the track all night moving water. By sunday morning BJ and the rest of the crew finally got the track dried and the pre show racing began. Unfortunately after a few hours of great racing action the rain started. To be honest it didn't look good the wheelstand show would happen seeing it was scheduled later in the day. BJ and the crew didn't give up and after another couple hours the track was ready. Battling more predictions of rain coming and the loss of daylight coming sooner the decision was made to forego the rest of the action and go straight the wheelstanders. It was a great decision and the wheelstand show went on much to the delight of all the loyal fans who stuck it out! In a fairybook ending Chris "Chinto" Pearce in his last wheelstand ever, pulled out the win in his chevy powered pinto and grab that $10,000 check!
