Dozens of celebrities were among the hundreds of mourners who paid their last respects to the Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni at the Saint-Sulpice church in Paris on Friday.
Both Mastroianni's wife Flora Carabella and his former lover, the French actress Catherine Deneuve, attended the service.
The choice of Marcello Mastroianni's local church of Saint Sulpice in Paris was deliberate. This memorial service was not intended to be a public affair, rather a private moment for family and friends.
His wife Flora Carabella was there with their daughter Barbara. So too, his former lover the French actress Catherine Deneuve with their daughter Chiara.
Actor Gerard Depardieu slipped quickly into the church despite the cheers of adoring fans. This was a moment to remember a colleague and friend.
But hundreds of fans still turned up to mourn the passing of one of the great actors of our time: the Italian screen idol who epitomised "the Latin lover".
Hundreds of people crammed the streets around the church to catch Marcello Mastroianni's last appearance.
Many queued to sign a book of remembrance: a simple gesture to show the great loss his death on Thursday has meant to their lives.
This was a moment for his thousands of fans to reflect on his career and his importance to their lives.

It's very sad because he was loved a lot. It was a part of our youth, all the same. He leaves us and he was loved by everyone. He had tremendous talent and a great deal of humility, humanity, kindness. He was marvellous. "

"He was a man, when you live in a society where money rules and we dream that man and woman in fact dominate, well he was the epitome of that. With his talent and humanity, he dominated, with conviction even without saying a word. And that isn't domination, that's life. No, he was life, Mastroianni. Life. Life."
