“If it bleeds, it leads”, an imbalanced view of who we are created by journalism. Jeroen decided it was time to show a more positive story about who we are as humans, by that creating the basis of the ‘Streets of the World’-project. But how to capture the full spectrum of humanity in photographs? Jeroen start with photographing street life, travelling to all capitals of the world. Encountering friendship, love, children, working, laughter, hope, perseverance, brotherhood, strength and much more on every corner of the street. His message? If you go looking for positivity, you will find it. Optimism is everywhere, street after street, city after city, country after country. And we are all storytellers. We create the news. Imagine if we all share a positive message. We would decide what we think about ourselves! After his education at the Photo Academy in Amsterdam, Jeroen Swolfs began his career as a photojournalist, focusing mainly on political and social topics. Among other topics, he created photo series about returned Serbian refugees and about the Roma communities in Eastern Europe. In addition, he worked for de Volkskrant newspaper and National Geographic. In 2009 he started his worldwide photo project called “Streets of the World”, for which he travelled to all -yes, all- the countries of the world to photograph street life. Jeroen Swolfs is named a Canon Influencer, and in 2016 National Geographic made a documentary about him and Streets of the World which was aired in different countries. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
