(19 Feb 2014) Hundreds of protesters blocked a road near a border crossing between Ukraine and Poland on Wednesday.
The blockage was reported inside Ukrainian territory, near the crossing with the Polish village of Korczowa.
"This morning, Ukrainian border guards informed us that the road leading to the border crossing Korczowa-Krakowiec was blocked 300 metres from the border," said Elzbieta Pikor, spokesperson for Bieszczady Border Guards.
"There are around 200-250 people blocking the road. The border crossing was functioning as not all traffic was blocked so it was not a blockade of a border crossing but a blockade of a road leading to it," she added.
Tyres and fallen trees have been spread across the road by residents of Krakowiec denying access across the border into Poland. They say they are determined to stay until their demands are met.
"On the Ukrainian side there is a group of people burning tyres and blocking the road leading to the border crossing," said Bartlomiej Sienkiewicz, Minister of Interior Affairs of Poland.
"They are stopping people of Ukrainian nationality; foreigners are not being stopped. We don't know the reason for this happening just a few hundred metres from the border," he added.
