Diane Van Buren, President of Zachary & Associates, describes the philosophy that went into rehabbing a historical jazz district building in Detroit using green energy systems. The building, at 71 Garfield, is a model for energy efficiency, solar PV, solar thermal, geothermal, and rainwater catchment integration into a historical structure. The building uses 75% less energy than it would have if it were designed with traditional energy systems.
