-With the stress on 'first attempt'-

This video is about a certain recurring shape in cinema, which I call “The Double Cone Motif”. The aim is to find out how and why this shape is used in movies.

It seems that images try to tell us something about the nature of the screen - that the screen eventually is curved, or even spherical.

With that comes the interesting question: how is the (straight) rectangle connected with the (curve) circle.

One shape that could be seen as the 'link' between the rectangle and the circle is the Double Cone (Rhombus), which interestingly resembles the shape of the eye watched from the outside.

The eye in itself also seems to communicate the idea of an (outer) rectangle (the eyelids) which can be stretched so that they become circular, just like the (inner) eyeball.
