Chris Hill, US envoy to Kosovo, on Tuesday (04/08) travelled to the towns of Orahovac and Malisevo, both recently overrun by the Serbs, to assess the conditions for a possible return of refugees.

SOT Chris Hill, US envoy to Kosovo, "If we don't get people back to their homes in the next week or two, if we don't start that process, we are going to have a humanitarian nightmare here. Some people have begun to return but, if we are going to get more to return, we have to start improving the conditions very quickly.;

SOT continues "Clearly there is concern about security conditions and behaviour of the police. That has to be improved if we are going to get more people back. As you can see, there is a lot of damage in thetown. We can see the damage is happening every day. As we came in, we could see there were additional houses burned in the vicinity of the town and clearly that has to stop if we are going to have any chance of getting people back soon.";
