This frequent urination in pregnancy is so common in my practice, I try to elicit this as a symptom in my patients who come with missed periods. The reason for this frequent urination is so many. One thing is the pregnancy hormone called as hCG, which is increased during the early part of pregnancy, tries to increase the blood supply to the kidneys and consequently the amount of urine produced is more and that is the reason they have increased frequency urination and one more thing is as the lady becomes pregnant, the ureters tries to increase in size and adjacent to the uterus three is a urinary bladder and this presses onto the urinary bladder because of which she tries to have more frequency of urination. One more thing in pregnancy is urinary infection. Because of the pregnancy hormone called as progesterone, there is some amount of stasis in the urinary system because of which there is more chances of urinary infection being more common in pregnant ladies. This she will come to know when she attends to her doctor and when she is tackled properly and one more thing is pregnancy associated increased frequency is due to the increase size of the uterus, which press to the bladder and increases the frequency of urination. This is usually common in the period of 6 or 9 weeks of pregnancy to 16 weeks of pregnancy. Again we come to pregnancy part itself it happens in later part of pregnancy, that is the last trimester of pregnancy that is when they come towards the delivery periods as the delivery period advances, the fetal parts tries to descend down to the abdomen, when it descends down, it tries to press on the urinary bladder. Especially the few days, the presenting oar, which is the commonest one being the head, comes down into the pelvis and this directly presses on the bladder, because of which she has incrased frequency of urination.
