While characters and story are certainly essential, the details of the environments that characters live and interact in are equally as paramount. The settings that characters exist in can do wonders to further how we understand them and their journey. Hear from WEATHERING WITH YOU Art Director Hiroshi Takiguchi on how he and the team drew from characters’ personalities and motivations in designing the spaces they inhabit to create environments that told their story.
Hiroshi Takiguchi is an animation background artist, and regular collaborator with director Makoto Shinkai. His previous credits with Shinkai include THE CHILDREN WHO CHASE LOST VOICES, THE GARDEN OF WORDS, and YOUR NAME. Outside of his work with Shinkai, Takiguchi has collaborated on various feature animated films, including THE CASE OF HANA & ALICE, the AJIN: DEMI-HUMAN trilogy, and BLAME!.
