Can You REALLY Remove Dents From Wood With An Iron

A question I often see on the Woodworking Facebook groups is how do you remove dents from wood. An iron and a wet cloth tends to be the common answer but most people have only heard that through word of mouth and never tried it themselves. So I thought for my own experience...I'd give it a try.
