Body Integrity Identity Disorder
The term body integrity identity disorder (BIID) describes the rare phenomenon of persons who desire the amputation of one or more healthy limbs or who desire a paralysis. Some of these persons mutilate themselves; others ask surgeons for an amputation or for the transection of their spinal cord.
Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID) is infrequently studied and highly secretive condition in which there is a mismatch between the mental body image and the physical body. Aim of the study is to broaden the knowledge of BIID amongst medical professionals, by describing all who deal with BIID.
