Pitr Tarpanam
In this video Bramhasri Ramesh Dravid Ganapadigal insists on all, the doing of Pitr Tarpanam. ( remembering our manes). Beyond the ritualistic meaning in the process, there is a greater significance. I give below a extract from an article on Pitr Tarpanam which offers a deeper meaning -
“Irrespective of the sayings in religious scriptures, we should understand that we are inheriting the genetic traits of our previous generations who have left the life. Whether we like them or not they are ingrained in our personality and get expressed when there is a chance for them. Anything in the life of an indivudual happens either by his or her own will or choice or if not decided then the nature takes control of your life subjecting you to chance. In a systematic and with specific periodicity if you start remember the elders and their traits in the family tree of previous generations, you will understand your own personality better. If you can eliminate the weak traits and strengthen the positives from genetic traits, then there is possibility that you have better control of your life.”
