"Dirty Rake" Guitar Rhythm | Texas Blue Shuffle | Techniques for Beginning
Stevie Ray Vaughan was the king of this style of rhythm. It sounds great and it sounds easy, but it’s not at all! Everybody seems to have a slightly different approach, but a couple of things are certain.
1. You need to 100% nail the syncopated train rhythm
2. You need to mute the strings either with your left or right hand – or both
3. You need to somewhat aggressively hit the notes with your left hand
And most important of all, if you break the rhythm for any reason – playing a lick for example – you need to go right back into it as soon as you can.
I’m still learning this technique, and I thought I’d pass on some things I’ve found helpful. Good luck and have fun!
