2:00 Bricusse/Newly: "Who Can I Turn To," arr. Oscar Peterson; Bach@Home; Magdalena Baczewska, piano
'Who Can I Turn To' is a song written by English lyricists Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley and first published in 1964. It has gone through the hands of many musicians over the years: Barbra Streisand, Wynton Marsalis, Bill Evans, Tony Bennet and Queen Latifah. Oscar Peterson's arrangement is particularly lyrical, yet retaining Peterson's signature virtuosity. Peterson knew exactly what makes the most recognizable elements of individual pianists' styles, as seen in his 1979 appearance on the Dick Cavett Show. Peterson demonstrates the elements of styles of Nat King Cole, George Shearing, and Art Tatum, among others. The video is easily searchable on YouTube.
